Major crackdown on narcotic networks; 7 drug peddlers arrested in multiple operations: Police | KNO

Srinagar, May 01 (KNO): In a sustained anti-narcotics traffickings, Police achieved significant success by arresting seven drug peddlers and registering several cases under the NDPS Act. The operations conducted in Anantnag, Handwara and Sopore resulted in the recovery of substantial quantity of contraband substances. According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in Anantnag, police registered 04 NDPS cases and arrested 05 accused persons during naka checking and routine patrolling at different locations. At Sagam Kokernag, a naka party intercepted a suspicious vehicle and apprehended two individuals. They have been identified as Aqib Nissar Rangraze resident of Anantnag and Umar Yousuf Mahroo resident of Kishtwar. During search, 13.36 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. At Mehmoodabad Bridge, another individual was apprehended during naka checking. He has been identified as Rameez Bashir Bhat resident of Tilwangund, from whose possession 2.65 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered. During patrolling at Gutligund, police apprehended one more suspect. He has been identified as Sabzar Ahmed Sofi, resident of Hallan Verinag. During search, 92 grams of charas powder and 20 grams of charas were recovered. In a separate action at Khrety Lovlupora, one individual was intercepted and subsequently arrested. He has been identified as Adil Ahmad Sheikh resident of Larnoo. Police recovered 2.300 kilograms of ganja along with 18 grams of charas from his possession. In Handwara, acting on heightened surveillance during naka checking at Utingroo Badchatri, police team apprehended a suspect who attempted to flee. He has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Maqbool Bhat resident of Drusu Jagir, Baramulla. A charas-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. Similarly, in Sopore, police party arrested a drug peddler during naka checking at Sidiq Colony. He has been identified as Imran Ahmad Kana son of Abdul Salam Kana resident of Sidiq Colony Sopore. During search, charas-like substance along with habit-forming drugs including Buscopan, Vernor, and Prochlorperazine Maleate tablets were recovered. All accused persons have been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to uncover backward and forward linkages of the narcotics networks. J&K Police have reiterated their firm resolve to eradicate the drug menace and urged the public to cooperate by sharing credible information to support ongoing anti-drug efforts—(KNO)
